5 Ways to Manage Type 2 Diabetes Naturally

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), over 30 million people in the United States are living with diabetes, and 9 out of 10 people re pre-diabetic but unaware of it. That’s a scary statistic, because if not managed well, diabetes can eventually lead to heart disease, blindness, kidney disease and nerve damage.

Is it any wonder that diabetes is one of the top 10 public health issues in America!

That’s’ the bad news.

The good news is, there are simple and natural ways you can effectively manage your diabetes if you commit to making some necessary lifestyle changes.

  1. Eat Right

Most of us know that person with diabetes that still shovels pounds of unhealthy, processed foods laden with sugar into their mouth. Many people think, “I’ll just take more insulin.”

This isn’t the right mindset to have when it comes to properly managing your diabetes. If you want to ensure that you stay healthy and don’t develop any health complications, it’s important you take nutrition seriously and eat a diet that focuses on getting adequate amounts of protein each day and plenty of healthy fats, while keeping your carbohydrate intake low. The keto diet is a great diet for people with diabetes.

However you choose to clean up your diet, here are a few musts you must do:

  • Cut out sugar and refined carbohydrates. This includes packaged foods, fruit juices, white bread, pasta, etc.
  • Stop eating fast foods
  • Stop drinking soda and alcoholic beverages
  1. Exercise

Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to stay fit and healthy. In fact, exercise has been shown to be effective at managing blood glucose in diabetics.

Unfortunately, many people don’t like to exercise. But the thing is, any exercise is better than none, so pick things you like to do. If you don’t like going to the gym, then do something else. Go for a walk around the block. Ride your bike to work if you can manage it. Go hiking. Take a dance class.

Weightlifting is really great for your overall health and has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and blood glucose levels.

  1. Try Intermittent Fasting

If you’re like most people, you think that in order to be healthy you’ve got to eat 3 square meals a day and some snacks. You may have even heard it’s better for you to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day.

But is this really true?

No, it’s not. The research is showing that skipping meals, also known as fasting, can do wonders for your health. Intermittent fasting, or IF, is when you have a small window of eating followed by a large window of not eating. So you may eat your first meal at noon and another meal around 5pm, and then not eat again until noon the next day.

Many doctors, like Dr. Jason Fung, are big proponents of IF and use it to treat their diabetic patients.

  1. De-Stress

When we are under stress our bodies go into “fight or flight” response mode. This is what helped our ancestors fight enemy invaders and run from hungry bears. This response is great when the stress is short-lived.

But in our modern society, stress is chronic. We’re all stressed by work, taxes, that BIG mortgage payment, bad relationships and nasty commutes. This chemical response in our body can end up wreaking havoc. In fact, when under stress, your body is unable to process glucose correctly. The result? Your blood glucose can raise to dangerous levels.

While it’s not easy staying completely away from stress, you need to find healthy ways to destress. Exercise is one of the best, and meditation has also been shown to be effective at fighting the effects of stress.

  1. Take Royal Jelly

Royal jelly is a sticky substance made by worker bees and there is some evidence that royal jelly may help people with type 2 diabetes. In one study, 50 female participants with type 2 diabetes received either a 1-gram dose of royal jelly gel or a placebo once a day for 8 weeks.

The results indicated that taking royal jelly may lead to a reduction in the level of blood glucose. While more research will be needed to conclusively state royal jelly can help lower blood glucose, the results so far are promising.

Our Golden Royal Honey contains royal jelly and may be a beneficial addition to your daily diet to help you manage your diabetes. As an added bonus, our honey helps men achieve strong erections and both men and women to get their libido back. Not too shabby bonuses!
